On Monday, November 11, 2013, CI students invited veterans to be honored in an assembly filled with music, art, and recognition of duty.  Ms. Schultz led the 5th and 6th grade Swing Choir in an acapella version of “The Star Spangled Banner,” followed by a medley of the different branches of military’s song.  Veterans for each branch stood during their song to be honored by students, staff, and guests.  Mrs. Sherry’s 6th grade Art student conducted researched and designed puzzle pieces to honor our veterans.

Two 5th grade students, Liam Sherment and Tyler Bachman, recognized the service and sacrifice of a parent who has served in the most recent war in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Liam mother is currently deployed in Afghanistan.  Tyler’s father paid the ultimate price while fighting the war on terrorism. After reading a poem and showing a photo of his father to share with the audience, Tyler received a standing ovation in his father’s honor.
