Add the following things together.  36,126 words, 200 teacher hours, 190 pages, 100 student hours, 75 meetings, 19 chapters, 12 young writers, 11 revisions, 7 months.  Do you know what they equal? The latest and greatest novel that follows up the accomplishments of last year’s book, The Outdoor Club: Adventures on the Appalachian Trail written by the Central Intermediate Young Writers’ Club.  6th grade teacher, Dr. Stick has led the group of students through the writing process from idea to publishing, including research field trip, to pit together the sequel to last year’s novel entitled Mystery of Pirate’s Cove.

Dr. Stick created the Young Writers’ Club as part of a leadership push at CI.  He wanted to motivate students to write in different styles and to see the success they can accomplish with hard work and determination.  He has expanded his encouragement to all 6th graders through a short story contest and an upcoming speech contest that will occur next month.

The students who took part in writing the novel will hold a book signing party in Central Intermediate’s Media Center on May 14th at 6:30 p.m.
