BLC students took a field trip to the Port of Catoosa on Wednesday to participate in the “Who Works the River?” career event.  Students attended a job fair which highlighted several of the 70-plus companies who are part of the port’s industrial complex.  They also met with representatives of the U.S.  Army Corps of Engineers who explained their responsibilities in the management of waterways and lakes.  Students visited the Oklahoma Maritime Education Center where they were informed about the history of the Port and it’s role in the transportation of products to and from the port city of New Orleans.  The group enjoyed a picnic lunch and a barge ride around the port, where they could see barges being loaded and unloaded.  The BLC would like to thanks the Port of Catoosa and Sheila Shook, the Maritime Education Coordinator, who arranged this very valuable experience.
